We always hear about Green Tea, Black Teas and many other teas and how helpful they are for our bodies. One tea that you don’t hear much about is the Rooibos Tea. I want to tell you real briefly the health benefits of one of the gems in the tea collection.
When I think of rooibos tea, I hear ANTIOXIDANTS!! ANTIOXIDANTS!! in my head. Rooibos tea is fast becoming a popular and delicious beverage for all ages to enjoy and reap the benefits of it. Rooibos tea is caffeine-free and full of antioxidants like aspalathin and nothofagin and extremely potent and versatile phenolic compounds. Its high levels of antioxidants are said to help protect against cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke. The green variety of rooibos tea is said to have higher levels of antioxidants. Rooibos tea has very low tannin levels. Tannin, which is a natural compound have a bad reputation because it interferes with the absorption of certain nutrients, like iron. Rooibos tea with its low tannin levels makes it easy to absorb nutrients like iron and for people with kidney issues to consume. Rooibos teas also contain no oxalic acid, which decreases your risk of kidney stones. Rooibos tea is also rich in many minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, copper, manganese, zinc, magnesium, and alpha hydroxy acid. Continued drinking of rooibos teas can improve bone health, improve digestion; improve sleep, increase reduction of allergies, headaches and colic. In closing, rooibos teas are healthy, caffeine-free, low in tannins super rich in antioxidants, and offer many other minerals as well as providing many health benefits. There is much more information out there on rooibos teas but I wanted to share with you a BRIEF rundown of how beneficial this tea is.
